HARROGATE, TN -- The Lady Railsplitters dropped their first home conference game of the season on Wednesday evening, as the Lions of Mars Hill College defeated Lincoln Memorial by a score of 89-81. With the loss, the Lady Railsplitters fall to 8-5 on the season and 3-2 in the South Atlantic Conference.
The Lions were led by Danielle Tucker who scored a game-high 26 points on the evening. Tyler Metcalf added 20 points in the effort. They accounted for more than half of their team's points.
Dayshalee Salaman led the way for Lincoln Memorial University in the losing effort as she poured in 19 points. Lauren Cochran and Amberly O'Dell scored 17 and 15 points respectively on the night. MaRanda Boddie was also a force as she added 12 points in the losing effort. Boddie and Cochran each finished with a double double as Boddie grabbed 12 boards and Cochran reigned in 11.
Following a 2-2 tie in the opening minutes, the Lions rallied off a 10-2 run to take command of the game. Ansley Ricker nailed a three-pointer to give the Lions a 26-11 lead with ten minutes left on the clock. The Lady Railsplitters struggled mightily in the half as they faced as large of a deficit as 22. Two free throws by Sequoya Aldridge cut the score to 46-26 at the half.
In the opening of the second half, the Lady Railsplitters continued to move backwards as a Tyler Carlson three-pointer gave the Lions a 63-36 lead with 14:21 left in the game. The Lady Railsplitters would hang tough, as they wittled the deficit to as leittle as seven with forty seconds remaining. Late free throws from the Lions sealed the game as they Lady Railsplitters dropped by a final of 89-81.
Lincoln Memorial University will try to rebound from this loss on Saturday, January 14th as they head to Anderson, South Carolina for a battle with the Trojans of Anderson University. That game is scheduled for a 2 p.m. tip.
