Lady Railsplitters Fall In Late Innings, Swept By Virginia Intermont

HARROGATE, TN -- The Lady Railsplitters dropped a two-game set against the Lady Cobras of Virginia Intermont College on Monday afternoon at Dorothy Neely Field by scores of 2-0 and 7-6. With the two losses, LMU falls to 5-5 on the season.

Game one-Virginia Intermont-2 Lincoln Memorial-O (8 innings)

Freshman pitcher Amanda Snow was saddled with the loss despite throwing seven and two-thirds innings, allowing only six hits and one earned run.

At the end of regulation, both teams were tied at 0-0 as both pitchers controlled the pace of play. The Lady Cobras broke open the scoreless tie in the top of the eighth with Krystle Brenneman's RBI-double. Brenneman scored later in the inning with a double by Kelli Porter which made it a 2-0 game heading into the bottom of the eighth.

The Lady Railsplitters went down in order in that frame as they were limited to just two hits in the contest. Taylor McGinnis and Amanda Snow recorded those knocks for LMU.

Game two-Virginia Intermont-7 Lincoln Memorial-6

The Lady Cobras combined for four homeruns in the contest and Kelli Porter's seventh-inning blast propelled Viginia Intermont past the Lady Railsplitters 7-6 in the second game of the doubleheader.
LMU answered the Lady Cobras' run in the top of the first with a four-run rally in the bottom of that frame. The bases were loaded following back-to-back singles by Bridget Eicher and Amanda Snow along with Taylor McGinnis reaching on an error. The first run scored with a walk by Sarah Walz. Kristi Franz highlighted the frame with a two-RBI single to take a 4-1 lead.

Kelli Porter homered in the top of the third to make it 4-3. Katelyn Mitchell gave the Lady Cobras a 6-4 lead with a three-run blast in the top of the fifth.

The Lady Railsplitters tied the game with two runs in the bottom of fifth which was erased in the top of the seventh with Porter's second homerun of the contest. Despite putting two runners on in the bottom of the seventh, the Lady Railsplitters came up empty as they fell 7-6 in the second game.

The Lady Railsplitters are tenatively scheduled to play a doubleheader at University of the Cumberlands on Wednesday, February 22nd.
