(LEXINGTON, Ky.) - The John Calipari Pro Camps got underway on Thursday and the kids in attendance had a chance to play alongside three former UK greats.
Doron Lamb, Darius Miller and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist were on the court as guest hosts of the camp, which is being conducted at Memorial Coliseum. The former players were part of a record-breaking group of six Kentucky players selected in the June NBA Draft.
Lamb and Miller were both second-round picks, while Kidd-Gilchrist was the second overall pick in the draft, taken by the Charlotte Bobcats.
The players say it's been fun coming to back to work with the kids.
"We came back for them, to show them support like they showed us since we've been here," Miller said. "For me, it's kind of weird coming back, instead of actually being here. I've been here for four years, so it's different. But it's fun at the same time."
"We had a lot of fun here last year, practicing, going hard and competing with each other," he said. "We mainly came back for the kids, though, to show them support, to be there for the kids, be active on the court with them. Just to make sure they feel happy."
"There's a lot of memories in this building and a lot of battles between us here," stated Kidd-Gilchrist. "It's just kind of weird for me. I just miss this place in general."
Kidd-Gilchrist also said he's still the same energetic person he was at UK.
"I still feel the same, believe it or not. I'm still the same little kid I was here," he said.
All three say they're happy to see former teammate Anthony Davis have the successful year he's had. Davis was scheduled to attend the Pro Camp, but is instead playing with Team USA in the Olympics.
As for Calipari's next group of Wildcats? The former players all agree next season's team will be as talented as the one which set a school record for wins and won an eighth national championship last year.
Calipari's Pro Camps continue through the weekend. On Saturday, former Wildcats Terrence Jones, Marquis Teague and Eloy Vargas will be guest hosts.
