Lance Egnatz Tabbed As Assistant Coach At University Of Tennessee At Martin

MARTIN, TN -- After four seasons as the top assistant for the Lincoln Memorial University men's basketball team, Lance Egnatz has moved on to the University of Tennessee at Martin as an assistant coach for the Skyhawks, school officials announced Tuesday morning.

University of Tennessee at Martin is a Division I program that competes in the Ohio Valley Conference.

In Egnatz's four-year stint at Lincoln Memorial University, he has been an intricate part of one of the biggest national turnarounds in Division II basketball. In 2010-11, Egnatz played a pivotal role in a record-breaking season for the Railsplitters, as the squad set a number of school and South Atlantic Conference records including wins (27), consecutive wins (22), winning percentage (90.0) and conference wins (16). LMU finished that season with an overall mark of 27-3, capturing South Atlantic Conference regular season and tournament championships in the process.

The culmination of Egnatz's four years came during the 2011-12 season, as the Railsplitters ascended to the No.1 national ranking after opening the season with 15 straight wins. The Railsplitters finished the season with a 26-6 record and a second straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament. This came in the wake of the LMU coaching staff inheiriting a program that won just eight games and one conference contest in the 2007-08 campaign.

All told, the Railsplitters went 87-32 with a 54-7 mark within the confines of Tex Turner Arena during Egnatz's time as the top assistant. LMU has made two consecutive appearances in the NCAA Southeast Region Tournament. Lance coached eight All-South Atlantic Conference players throughout his stay.

"I am very happy for Lance as he is most deserving of this opportunity," stating head men's basketball coach Josh Schertz. "When a program is successful, you hope your assistants have an opportunity to benefit, and this is certainly an example of that. UT Martin has not only hired a great person and a great ambassador, but someone who will have a positive impact on their program in a multitude of areas."

Prior to arriving at Lincoln Memorial University, Egnatz served as an assistant coach for two seasons at Polk State College, a Division I junior college located in Winter Haven, Florida. From 2006 to 2008, Egnatz was primarily responsible for work with the post players and recruiting. In his final season at Polk State, the team posted a 24-6 mark and ranked fourth in the state of Florida.

Before beginning his collegiate coaching career, Egnatz served one year as the head men's basketball coach at Somerset Academy in Pembroke Pines, Florida.

Egnatz is a native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and attended Seneca Valley High School, where he led the school to its first-ever postseason appearance. Upon graduation, Egnatz moved on to Pennsylvania State University Beaver for two years. Following that two-year stint, Egnatz moved to Lynn University in Boca Raton, Florida, where he played for Lincoln Memorial University head coach Josh Schertz. During his stay at Lynn and PSU Beaver, Egnatz also competed as a member of the baseball teams, helping to lead PSU Beaver to the NJCAA World Series in 1999.

Egnatz graduated from Lynn University with a degree in sports and recreational management in 2002. He is currently working on his Masters Degree in sports leadership from Duquesne University. Egnatz is married to the former Juliette Schohn of Paris, France.
"It was great being part of the success we had at Lincoln Memorial University," Lance commented. "I had a chance to learn a lot from Coach Schertz over the four years I was there and look forward to following the LMU team from afar.

"I'm excited for the opportunity I have been given here at Tennessee Martin."

Lance Egnatz will begin his duties immediately as the assistant coach for the University of Tennessee at Martin Skyhawks, who open their season on November 2nd in an exhibition game against Illinois College.
