Late goal by Belmont stops soccer win streak at four

MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Belmont scored the lone goal of the match in the 81st minute to give the Morehead State soccer team its first loss in five matches, Sunday at Jayne Stadium.

The Bruins' (7-8-2, 5-4-1) tally was the first allowed by MSU (7-11-1, 6-4-0) in its last 317 minutes of action.

Katie Proud provided the winner, as she placed a long-range shot into an empty net following a save by sophomore goalkeeper Elizabeth Floyd, in which she was forced into action at the top of the box.

The Eagles had one of their best chances of the match in the 28th minute, when junior midfielder Holly Tilley's shot nearly caught the Belmont goalkeeper out of position.

MSU held a 6-1 advantage in shots after the first 45 minutes. The Eagles forced three saves, while Belmont had its lone shot on target in the second minute.

The Bruins outshot MSU 5-4 in the second half, forcing three saves. The Eagles forced just one second half save by Belmont keeper Nicole Berner.

MSU, who has clinched a spot in the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament, will play their final regular season match on Friday versus Eastern Kentucky. Action is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. ET.
