HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. The Morehead State men's golf team wrapped up the F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate on Tuesday with a 302 at The Links at Novadell.
Sophomore Will Branham led Morehead State with a third-round 71 to finish with a 54-hole score of 221. Classmate Logan Hogge, who posted a 78 on Tuesday, closed out with a team-best 218.
Freshman Ryan Daniels added a 75 on Tuesday, while sophomore Brad Newnam and junior Jared Stacy carded 78s. Senior Michael Pinsonneault, playing as an individual for the Eagles, fired an 86.
Belmont (848) won the 14-team event. Host Austin Peay (852) and Eastern Kentucky (852) tied for second, while UT Martin (861) and Southern Illinois (864) rounded out the top five.
Morehead State (896) slipped to last on the final day, despite being just 10 shots from the top 10.
"This was a disappointing way to end our fall season," Head Coach Dr. Rex Chaney said. "We didn't come up with enough scores in the low 70s to be competitive against some very good programs."
Belmont sophomore Ashton Van Horne claimed medalist honors with rounds of 67, 69 and 69. His three-round total of 205 was just one stroke from tying the tournament record.
Belmont became the fourth Ohio Valley Conference program to win the event, following Eastern Kentucky in 2009, Jacksonville State in 2010 and Austin Peay the last two years.
"Belmont played very well," Chaney said. "You look at the final team standings and see OVC schools in each of the top four spots. I think that says a lot about the overall strength of our league."
The course played at a par of 72 and yardage of 7,132.
Morehead State is now idle until March 10-11, when it begins spring action at the Grover Page Classic in Jackson, Tenn. That tournament will be held at the Jackson Country Club.
