MOREHEAD, Ky.—Morehead State will be well represented at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. Four current or alumni members of the co-ed cheer squad have been selected to cheer for Team USA Basketball during the semifinals and finals of the summer games.
Ronnie Patrick, Josh McCurdy, David Clemons, and Brandon Garvey will be part of the elite 16-member squad to cheer on Team USA. The cheer squad, which is being sponsored by Varsity, will focus heavily on entertaining the crowds and television audiences with their stunts and tumbling abilities. They will also perform during halftime of each game provided that Team USA advances.
"As the coach at Morehead State, I am honored and excited to have current and alumni MSU cheerleaders representing our program. We all wish them the best," said MSU Head Cheer Coach Bill Mayo.
McCurdy, an MSU alum, is the director of curriculum for Universal Cheerleading Association, one of the Varsity training branches.
“Being asked to perform at the Olympics is a dream come true for all of us,” he said. “We have worked with teams all over the world, and are proud to showcase the talent of our American athletes on such a large, global stage.”
The MSU cheer program has brought the University into the national spotlight. The program recently won another co-ed division national championship. With the latest title, it brings the program to 21 co-ed championships and 32 overall championships.
