The University of the Cumberlands (UC) football team is coming off of a tough loss to Bethel University on Saturday. However, one bright spot for one individual did come from the game as Patriot punter Mitchell Mascaro (Knoxville, TN) earned the Mid-South Conference (MSC) Special Teams Player of the Week honor.
Mascaro punted the ball 6 times during the game Saturday for a total of 291 yards, averaging 48.5 yards per punt. Four of his six punts also pinned the Bethel offense inside its own 20 yard line to start their drives.
Mascaro currently is ranked 1st in the MSC for punt yards per attempt at 42.9 yards per punt. That also ranks him 3rd in the NAIA for the same category.
The Patriots will be back in action on Saturday October 1st as they travel to Barbourville, KY to take on the Union College Bulldogs in the "Battle for the Brass Lantern". This is also a huge MSC West battle as the Patriots look to rebound off their loss to Bethel. Kickoff is set for 12:00 pm.
