McNamee era begins Tuesday for UPike women's basketball with Asbury exhibition

PIKEVILLE, Ky. – Joanna Bernabei-McNamee leads the University of Pikeville women’s basketball team into action for the first time at 7:30 p.m. ET on Tuesday against Asbury (Ky.) in an exhibition at the East Kentucky Exposition Center.

The game is part of Halloween Hoopla, featuring music, giveaways, dance routines, costume contests and a chance to meet the basketball team.

Bernabei-McNamee is in her first season as head coach at UPIKE after previously holding the top spot at West Virginia Wesleyan. She was also part of the Maryland staff that captured the 2006 NCAA National Championship as recruiting coordinator.

The 2013-14 Bears feature eight returning players, including starters Brogan Conley, Peyton Wright, Jayme Jackson and Callisha Johnson.
UPIKE finished 11-19 overall last season and 6-14 in the Mid-South Conference.

Regular-season play begins on Nov. 12 at Alice Lloyd (Ky.), while the home openers is scheduled for Nov. 14 against King College (Tenn.).
