Meghan LaFevor Garners Capital One Academic All-District First Team Honors

HARROGATE, TN -- Lincoln Memorial University softball player, Meghan LaFevor, has been named to the 2012 Capital One Academic All-District Softball Team, the College Sports Information Directors of America announced Thursday afternoon.

The Capital One All-District teams are utilized to recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.

LaFevor was named to the First Team in District 3 following her final season at Lincoln Memorial University, as she will graduate early after the completion of only her third year at LMU. The Columbia, Tennessee native was an integral part of a Lady Railsplitters' squad that finished the season 18-28 and 6-11 in the South Atlantic Conference.

On the mound, LaFevor led the charge with 140.1 innings pitched, notching a 3.44 earned run average and a 9-15 record. She struck out 98 batters over that span and walked only 35.

LaFevor was also a force at the dish for the Lady 'Splitters this season, as she compiled a .233 batting average with a pair of doubles and home runs. She finished third on the team with 12 stolen bases.

As she leaves LMU, LaFevor has left an indelible mark at the university, etching her name in the record book in several distinct categories. She ranks third in most strikeouts per game (5.07), fourth in lowest ERA (2.04), fifth in games started (53), fifth in innings pitched (346.1), sixth in wins (32), seventh in appearances (70) and ninth in complete games (33). Those are merely the noteworthy accomplishments of an historic career in a Lady Railsplitters uniform.

Meghan LaFevor's athletic resume might only be outmeasured by her academic accomplishments as she completes her stay at Lincoln Memorial University with an astounding 3.98 GPA. She will graduate a year early, earning her degree in Physical Education. LaFevor has been accepted to continue her education at Ohio University, where she will pursue her graduate degree.

First Team Academic All-District honorees advance to the Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot, where first, second and third team All-American honorees will be selected later this month.
