LEXINGTON, Ky. – University of Kentucky senior tight end Nick Melillo and junior defensive lineman Taylor Wyndham have been named game captains for Kentucky's Southeastern Conference battle with Georgia on Saturday at 12:21 p.m. ET inside Sanford Stadium in Athens, Ga.
Game captains are usually chosen on the basis of performance in the previous game. Melillo had his best game as a Wildcat against Vanderbilt, earning his first career touchdown reception and posting a career high in receptions and receiving yards. The native of Louisville, Ky., finished the game with four catches for 59 yards, including two receptions of 20 yards or more. Melillo’s touchdown catch was a 22-yarder, while his longest of the game was a 25-yard reception. For his efforts, Melillo was named honorable mention tight end of the week by the College Football Performance Awards.
Wyndham played very well for Kentucky against Vanderbilt, tying a career high in tackles with six stops. The native of Swansea, S.C., filled in nicely for a banged up defensive front last Saturday, recording a tackle for loss and a quarterback hurry in the game. Wyndham has played in nine games this season for UK, including three starts.
Melillo and Wyndham will join permanent game captains Danny Trevathan and Stuart Hines at the pregame coin toss.
