MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Michael Wilson and Ryan Daniels have signed National Letters of Intent with the Morehead State men's golf program. Both are expected to be on campus next month and have four years of eligibility as true freshmen.
"The most impressive thing to me is our newcomers are very good students and high-character young men," said Head Coach Dr. Rex Chaney, who begins his 38th year with the men's golf program at Morehead State. "We're certainly looking forward to working with all of them."
Wilson was a member of four consecutive 13th Region All-A championship teams at Middlesboro High School (Ky.) and earned medalist honors each year. He also helped the Yellow Jackets to the 2013 Tri-County Conference title and was named Conference Player of the Year.
Wilson posted a 76.2 stroke average as a junior and 74.0 scoring mark as a senior. He participated in the Nature Valley First Tee Open at Pebble Beach in both 2011 and 2012.
"Michael is a left-hander with great potential," Chaney said. "He has a terrific mental approach to the game and is very solid with his driver. Michael will have to improve his short game at this level, but I know he has the ability to do so. I really feel like he's a diamond in the rough."
Daniels was a First-Team All-Area selection at North Hardin High School (Radcliff, Ky.) his sophomore, junior and senior years. He helped the Trojans to the 5th Region championship in 2011 while claiming Region Player of the Year and medalist honors.
Daniels qualified for the Kentucky State Amateur as a sophomore. He finished first at the Warren East Invitational, carded a tournament-record 66 at the Dale Hollow Invitational and earned Kentucky High School Athletic Association All-State accolades as a senior.
"Ryan is strong young man with a lot of potential," Chaney said. "He hits the ball straight off the tee, which will give him a chance to be successful at this level. I've been impressed with Ryan's knowledge of the game. He really understands golf and knows how to play."
