HARROGATE, TN -- The Lady Railsplitters grabbed a 9-0 win over Milligan College and Sofia Lopez Mimendi took over the top spot for career doubles wins in Lincoln Memorial University history on Tuesday afternoon at the LMU Tennis Complex. LMU improves to 12-5 on the year with the win and Milligan College drops to 9-7 with the loss.
The Lady Railsplitters assumed early command of the match with a triumphant sweep in doubles play. In the top spot, Sofia Lopez Mimendi and Leah Donoff took an 8-6 win over Kayla Kelly and Sarah Rainwater. With the win, Mimendi surpassed Helena Sokolova for the all-time lead in doubles victories at LMU. For her career, Mimendi has 64 doubles victories.
In the second spot, Shena Joseph and Alexandra Granger defeated Albany Kelly and Celeste Carpenter, 8-4. Logan Hubbs and Aura Penalosa rounded out doubles play with an 8-4 win over Ahmee Kelly and Halie Winfrey.
Leah Donoff began singles play by taking a 6-1, 6-1 win over Kayla Kelly in the top spot. Mimendi moved to 58 career singles win, two away from tying the all-time record, with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Rainwater in the second spot.
Hubbs cruised past Albany Kelly, 6-0, 6-2, in the third spot, while Granger took a 6-4, 6-4 win over Carpenter in the fourth position.
Shena Joseph won the toughest match of the day in the fifth spot, defeating Winfrey, 7-6 (8-6), 6-4. Penalosa finished the sweep for the Lady 'Splitters with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Ahmee Kelly in the sixth spot.
LMU will be back in action on April 13th as they host Georgetown College for a nonconference matchup. Matches are set for a 2 p.m. start at the LMU Tennis Complex.
