MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Morehead State Head Football Coach Matt Ballard, senior quarterback Zach Lewis and junior defensive back John Coleman recently spoke with MSUEagles.com about preseason camp and the upcoming campaign.
More than 100 players are gearing up for the 2012 season. The Eagles are working through a schedule of approximately 30 practices this month in addition to film, conditioning, team and administrative sessions.
MSU opens regular-season action next Thursday when Southern Virginia visits Jayne Stadium at 7 p.m. ET. The Eagles have six home games in 2012. Tickets for the SVU game are available by clicking here.
“It's hard to believe the season is just one week away," Ballard said. "We're looking forward to a Thursday night opener at Jayne Stadium. We've been able to accomplish a lot the past three weeks. I've been impressed with how hard our young men are working. Our guys are hungry and that should make for an exciting season.”
Morehead State returns five individuals who earned Pioneer Football League postseason honors a year ago -- Lewis, Joey Clegg, Rainer Duzan, Eric Matteson and Donte Sawyer. All five have received 2012 preseason honors in addition to Dexter Geohagen and Zachary Senvisky.
MSU set 17 school records a season ago -- eight team and nine individual. Lewis led the way by establishing single-season marks for completions (324), attempts (513) and passing yards (3,585).
