MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Morehead State (1-2 overall) and San Diego (2-1 overall) begin their Pioneer Football League schedules on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. ET when the teams meet at Jayne Stadium.
The game will be carried live on the Eagle Sports Network, which includes WIVY-96.3 FM in Morehead, WLGC-1550 AM in Greenup and WMST-1150 AM in Mt. Sterling. Updates will also be available during and after the contest on www.MSUEagles.com.
The Eagles opened the season with a win over Kentucky Christian (67-0), then suffered losses at Illinois State (52-21) and Saint Francis (Pa.) (50-49). The Toreros kicked off the campaign with victories over Azusa Pacific (42-40) and Western New Mexico (30-10), then dropped a decision at UC Davis (31-3).
MSU suffered a heartbreaking defeat last Saturday at DeGol Field, despite passing for a school- and league-record 512 yards. The Eagles held a 21-point advantage in the third quarter, but let the lead slip away by turning the ball over four times in the second half.
Saint Francis junior running back Kyle Harbridge tallied 398 total yards and five touchdowns in the come-from-behind win. He ran for a school-record 346 yards on 30 carries and added 52 receiving yards on four catches.
Junior quarterback Zach Lewis (74-for-117, 63.2%, 1,074 yds, 8 TD, 2 INT), senior fullback Desmond Cox (50 rush, 212 yds, 5 TD) and senior halfback Ronnie McDermott (14 rec, 171 yds, 1 TD) have led the Morehead State offense to this point in the season.
Senior linebacker Tony Bachman has paced the Eagle defense with 24 tackles this year, while senior defensive end Jerome Raymond owns a team-best 3.5 sacks for 31 yards.
Sophomore quarterback Mason Mills (56-for-90, 62.2%, 715 yds, 6 TD, 4 INT), sophomore running back Kenny James (40 rush, 242 yds, 1 TD) and freshman wide receiver Brandon White (16 rec, 235 yds, 2 TD) have led the San Diego to this point in the campaign.
Junior linebacker Zach Dunaj has paced the Torero defense with 23 tackles this year, while senior defensive end Mario Kurn owns a team-best three sacks for 22 yards.
USD posted a 34-0 win over MSU in 2010 and has won all six meetings in the series.
Morehead State continues PFL action next Saturday, Oct. 1, with a 2 p.m. ET game at Valparaiso. It will begin a stretch of four road games in six weeks for the Eagles.
