The 115th Running of the Boston Marathon is on Monday and one local runner is participating. We met up with Harlan native, C.D. Morton as he trains to run the race.
C.D. Morton ties up his laces and hits the pavement running.
Morton will participate in the 115th Running of the Boston Marathon Monday after he qualified at an event back in October of 2009.
“I was able to kind of collect myself and finished 2:30 minutes faster than I needed to,” Morton says. “3:12 to qualify for the Boston.”
Morton, who runs 5-6 days a week, tried to qualify three times before he made the cut, even missed the cut by just 32 seconds once before. Now he will be there at the starting line of the 26.2 mile course on Monday.
“32-seconds is not very long on a course,” Morton says. So you know, the next time I went, I made sure everything was in places for me to qualify so when I went up there, I knew that I was going to to be able to do it.”
In just three days, the running of the 115th Boston Marathon will take place. Morton trained for four year just to stand on the line with the world’s elite. And if he keeps up the pace he’s on now, he will cross the finish line in record time.
“It’s really something I’ve been shooting for and working hard for” Morton says. “We’re just going to go up there and enjoy the weekend and take it all in and just enjoy it.
But when the gun sounds on Monday... Morton will hope to do the mountains proud and finish the race, finally on his time.
