MILLEDGEVILLE, GA - Junior Brianna Mulkey has been named to the 2013 Daktronics Softball All-Southeast Region Second Team, officials announced Monday morning. This marks Mulkey's second appearance on the All-Southeast Region team, as she was also honored as a second team selection in 2012.
Mulkey (Kettering, OH) adds All-Southeast Region laurels to a resume for the 2013 season that includes a selection to the All-South Atlantic Conference Second Team, her third-consecutive nod for the All-SAC team. Mulkey, a junior outfielder, helped create an 18-win turnaround for the Lady Railsplitters under the first year direction of head coach Natalie Layden. After finishing 18-28 in 2012, Lincoln Memorial notched a 30-22 mark in 2013, the first 30-win season for the softball program since 2008.
Offensively, Mulkey played a pivotal role in the Lady Railsplitters' success this season, leading the squad in batting average (.357), runs scored (40), hits (65), triples (4) and stolen bases (34). For the third-consecutive season, Mulkey led the South Atlantic Conference in stolen bases, surpassing her closest competition by 15. She also finished fourth in the league in hits, fifth in triples, sixth in runs and seventh in batting average. She rounded out her stat ledger by compiling 73 total bases, good for second on the Lady Railsplitters.
All told, Mulkey tallied 18 multiple hit games with 13 two-hit showings, four three-hit outings and one four-hit game. Her four-hit game came on March 3rd, as she led LMU to a 12-11 win over King University in Duncan, South Carolina with four singles, four runs scored and a pair of walks. Along with her many multiple hit outings, Mulkey notched a 13-game hit streak from March 18th to April 13th and added another nine-game hit streak from February 2nd until February 14th. Mulkey was held without a hit in only 11 of 52 games played this season.
Mulkey also provided stability on the defensive side of the ball this season, compiling a .964 fielding percentage while starting all 52 games in center field for the Lady Railsplitters. She only committed two errors over that span with 49 putouts and four assists to her credit.
The first team selections will move on to the All-America ballot. The Daktronics All-America programs honor student-athletes in Division II athletic programs. The voting, nomination and calculations are all conducted by the school's sports information directors.
The D2SIDA All-America softball team is sponsored by Daktronics, Inc., an acknowledged world leader in scoring, timing and programmable display systems for virtually every sport at every level of competition.
