This weekend, several coverage area basketball teams are suppose to take part in the "Rumble in Rupp", which is a host of basketball scrimmage games taking place in Lexington.
Sheldon Clark, Southwestern, Piarist and Barbourville girls are all suppose to be in action. However, the NCAA enforced a new rule which prohibits non-scholastic events from playing on a collegiate campus or main playing facility, moving the games to Lexington Christian. Other coverage area teams like Perry Central are suppose to take part in another showcase later in the year at Rupp Arena, and this ruling could affect those game as well. During the summer we spoke with Perry Central Head Coach Allan Hatcher about the advantages of playing at Rupp.
"Boy, if we got an opportunity to play in something like that. It would be a great opportunity to play in something like that and it would maybe help you if you won the region and got a chance to play in Rupp Arena later on in March. At least you would have been there in the regular season and got used to the surroundings and back grounds and everything else, so we jumped at the opportunity to do that," says Perry Central head coach Allan Hatcher.
