The University of Kentucky men's basketball team will get a big honor this week.
The team has been invited to the White House to meet President Barack Obama. Obama is honoring the team for its 2012 NCAA championship.
“The amazing thing is the first thing that was said when the horn sounded in New Orleans was, ‘We’re going to the White House’," said UK head coach, John Calipari
“It’s one of those moments for these players that they have probably thought about without us even knowing that it was important to them. So I’m excited about the opportunity for them to meet the President of the United States, the Leader of the Free World and someone who is trying to make a difference in their lives.”
On April 2nd, the team defeated the University of Kansas, 67-59, to bring home the the university's eighth national championship basketball title. Five of the team's underclassmen declared for the NBA draft, which is June 28th at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. The draft will start at 7:00 pm. Kentucky Freshman Anthony Davis is predicted to be the top pick.
