BETSY LAYNE Ky. (WYMT) - We had a local high school basketball coach reach a career milestone Thursday afternoon.
In his team's 42-35 win over Highlands Thursday, Betsy Layne head coach Junior Newsome picked up his 500th career win. He says he's been lucky to have been surrounded by such good players and coaches that have allowed him to stay in business for so long.
"Well, you know, I hadn't really thought that much about it. I knew it was getting close", said Newsome.
"But anytime you can stay in this profession and get 500 wins, that means you have had some stability, you have had a lot of good players surrounding you and playing hard for you. And that means the coach has survived and been around an awful long time, and I've been lucky enough to do that."
