No. 1 Pirates still haven't played best game

BELFRY, Ky. (WYMT) - The No. 1 Belfry Pirates are one win away from capturing the program's third state championship.

Even after knocking off two undefeated teams in as many weeks, head coach Philip Haywood still doesn't feel as though his team has played their best game, and if the players can keep working to get better heading into Friday's game with Louisville Central, they feel like they have a really good shot at bringing home the title.

"We really haven't played our best football, and when we start looking at film, there are always some little correctible things that we need to improve on," says Haywood. "Six or seven weeks ago, they were big things. It's all about fundamentals. It's all about the little things, and we've gradually been improving those things, and it's why we're playing better football, and that's why we're still playing."

"You know, we're playing great right now, but like Coach Haywood says, we're not playing the best ball that we can," adds Madison Ghormley, a senior linebacker. "We're capable of putting up more numbers and stuff like that, and I just think that if we keep playing as hard as we can, and I know this group of seniors that we have, everybody has been talking about them since we've been in middle school, you know, this is going to be the team that does it, and I really think that we have a really good shot at it."
