No. 3 Kentucky blasts Transylvania, 74-28

LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) - Julius Mays spurred a 19-4 second-half run with three 3-pointers before leaving with a leg strain, freshman Nerlens Noel scored 15 points and No. 3 Kentucky held Transylvania to 10 points after intermission for a 74-28 exhibition victory Monday night.

The Wildcats' high-profile freshmen combined for 42 points with Willie Cauley-Stein getting 12, Archie Goodwin 10 and Alex Poythress five. Sophomore Ryan Harrow added 12 points for Kentucky, which led 27-18 at halftime before turning it into a 46-22 lead with 13 minutes remaining.

Mays, who finished with 14 points, left with 6:06 remaining in the game with the injury. The graduate transfer from Wright State went to the locker room for observation before returning to spend the rest of the game on the bench.

The Wildcats open the season Friday night against Maryland at the Barclays Center Classic in Brooklyn, N.Y.
