No. 24 Lady Bulldogs Muscle Way to 70-55 AAC Win

BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - Tim Curry picked up his 200th win as Lady Bulldog head coach when No. 24 Union registered a 70-55 Appalachian Athletic Conference victory over visiting Bluefield (Va.) on Wednesday.

In his 11th season at Union, Curry owns a 200-143 mark during his tenure. He is 292-255 for his career. Coincidentally, he spent six seasons at Bluefield prior to coming to Union where he posted a 92-112.

With the win, Union improves to 16-5 overall and 7-3 in the AAC. Bluefield is now 12-8 overall and 6-4 in conference play.

The game was a contrast of styles as Bluefield pounded the paint and Union attacked from long range. The Lady Rams scored 40 points in the lane, while the Lady Bulldogs drained 12 3-pointers. In fact, six of Union's first eight made baskets were from behind the arc. Bluefield has one trey, but it didn't come until the final minute of the game.

The Lady Rams dominated the glass, outrebounding the Lady Bulldogs 49-31. Bluefield also had 15 offensive boards but only eight second-chance points. Union, meanwhile, netted eight second-chance points on six offensive rebounds.

Union led from wire-to-wire and never really was threatened for much of the game. The Lady Bulldogs jumped out to a 16-3 lead with Lindsey Waters (Stearns, Ky.) scoring five points. Bluefield rallied to cut the deficit to 19-13 after a Teqa McNeal layup with 10:01 to play. The Lady Bulldogs countered with a 12-1 rally to build a 31-14 cushion following an Alyson Roberts (Baxter, Tenn.) 3-pointer at the 4:38 mark.

The Lady Bulldogs went on to take a 41-26 lead into the break.
In the second half, Union maintained complete control. The Lady Bulldogs built the margin as high as 23, and the Lady Rams were unable to get any closer than 15 the rest of the way as Union recorded the 70-55 decision.

Waters led Union with 23 points and nine rebounds to go with her three blocks. Kara Pile(Fairdale, Ky.) added 15 points and five assists with Roberts chipping in 10 points and five assists.
Takieya Rouse paced Bluefield with 16 points, while Janee Simmons knocked in 11.

Union returns to action Saturday when it visits No. 20 Tennessee Wesleyan for a key AAC showdown. Game time is set for 2 p.m.
