WISE, Va. - Georgetown College, the NAIA's top ranked team broke open a 28-20 halftime score by outscoring UVa-Wise 21-7 in the second half to post a 49-27 victory at Carl Smith Stadium on Saturday.
The victorious Tigers were led by Neal Pawsat who completed 16 of 29 passes for 247 yards and three touchdowns in the win. Branden Burdette caught two passes, both of which went for touchdowns, the receiver finished with 68 yards on the day.
In the loss, Paul Melshen broke the school's all-time field goals made record with a 41 yard field goal in the second quarter. The junior finished the game three for three in point after attempts while booting two field goals. Michel Steele had one the strongest games of his career on Saturday as he caught ten passes for 110 yards. Freshman Connery Swift rushed for 61 yards on 14 attempts and a touchdown.
The loss ends the season for the Cavaliers who finish 3-8 overall and 1-4 in Mid-South East play. The Tigers improve to 10-0 on the year and will move into the playoffs as the Mid-South East Champion.
