Numerous Patriots named to BSN All-American Team

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. - The University of the Cumberlands (UC) football program is in preparations for their biggest game in school history.

The Patriots will be taking on the Grand View University Vikings for the NAIA National Championship.

It has been a tremendous season for the Patriots who have garnered a number 1 ranking and a perfect 13-0 mark.

This couldn’t be done without some special players and Beyond Sports Network (BSN) and its voters have taken notice as they released their 2013 BSN All-Americans.

Seniors Nick Smith (Knoxville, TN), Ryan Northcutt (Atlanta, GA), and D’Angelo Jordan (Jacksonville, FL) were named BSN 2nd team All-Americans, while Weston Hazelhurst (Clinton, TN) was named 3rd team All-American.

Nick Smith has been a force for the Patriots defensive line all season long. Smith has given offenses fits the whole year on his way to 64 total tackles.

Nick has also been a huge part in putting the offense in reverse as he has 4.0 sacks for 18 yards, as well as 12.5 tackles for loss for 38 yards.

Ryan Northcutt has been the rock of the Patriots offensive line. Northcutt, a right tackle, and the offensive line have made holes for an offense that has ran for a NAIA leading 4,669 yards.

He is also part of an offensive line that has given up an average of less than 1 sack per game.

A player that has benefited from the job of Northcutt and the offensive line has been D’Angelo Jordan. D’Angelo has been one of the marquee running backs for the Patriots ground game.

Jordan has ran for 1130 yards on 136 carries and 11 touchdowns. The Mid-South Conference co-offensive MVP has averaged 8.3 yards per carry as well as finding the end zone 11 times.

Jordan has also shown his ability out of the backfield as he has 10 catches for 203 yards and a touchdown.

Weston Hazelhurst has been the leader of the defense that calls themselves the “sharks”.

Weston has played well all season as he leads the defense with 114 tackles. He also leads the team in tackles for loss and sacks. Weston has 17.5 tackles for loss and 6.5 sacks for a combined 88 lost yards.

Hazelhurst has also shown his ability to not only force pressure but also cause turnovers as he has 2 forced fumbles on the year, and 3 fumble recoveries.

The Patriots are not finished collecting honors as they hope to add one more missing trophy to the trophy case, a national championship. The #1 ranked Patriots will be taking on the Grand View Vikings on December 21st at 4:30 at Barron Stadium in Rome, GA.
