WYMT continues its DQ Grill and Chill Countdown to Tipoff series with the Owsley County Owls. The Owsley County Owls enter the 2012 season with a new coach and a new mindset.
This season, head coach Paul Green and his Owls will look to change the culture of the program in a district that they believe is up for grabs.
"Our kids are coming into their own. Our team this year is going to be dominated by mostly juniors. We have one senior," says Green. "We have good size and strength for a small school. We're balanced."
"Everybody wants to win. It's just a 'want to' thing but the thing about it is you have to work for it. And we're working for it," says senior center Izaiah Allen.
"At times last year and the year before, we'd play a team like Hazard or Perry County, we'd quit, take a thumping," says junior forward Joey Grove. "I think this year the goal would be when we play a tougher team, just play them tough. Make them work for it. Don't give no one nothing. And the teams we should beat? Beat them."
