WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. - The University of the Cumberlands (UC) Women's Golf team capped off the Mid-South Conference (MSC) season Wednesday in a familiar place: at the top. Finishing ahead of the runner-up Lindsey Wilson Blue Raiders by 29 strokes, the Patriot Ladies claimed their third straight MSC title, further proving exactly why they are considered national champion competitors. Earning the conference's automatic bid into next month's NAIA National Championships in Lincoln, Nebraska, the No. 3 ranked Patriots won their 5th tournament of the spring season.
Finishing with a team score of 922 over three days of play, Cumberlands was led by Bri-ann Tokariwski (Winnipeg, Canada) who placed 2nd overall with an overall score of 229 (+13) and senior Liz Stephens (Tockington, Bristol UK) who tied for 4th place with a score of 233 (+17). Shooting a 235, Candice Lindeque (Boksburg, South Africa) and Rachel Pingleton (Parksville, KY) tied with one another for 6th place, while Shannon Bishop (Glasgow, KY) also found her way into the top 10 at 10th overall individually with a final score of 240. Taylor Gillis (Lawrenceburg, KY) also competed in the three-day championships, finishing in 18th after shooting a 247.
MSC All-Conference awards were also awarded Wednesday afternoon after the completion of the tournament. The two All-Conference teams are based on the three Mid-South sponsored tournaments throughout the year with each individual using his top five scores in the seven rounds. Tokariwski, Stephens, Pingleton and Gillis all were named First-Team All-Conference, while Bishop and Lindeque were named Second-Team All-Conference.
Head Coach Chris Kraftick commented, "What a performance this week for the women! This team is so strong and we haven't shown that at times this spring but the girls really stepped up this week especially in the final round. I'm really looking forward to wrapping up classes and getting some good work in before we head to Nebraska."
The Patriot ladies will now prepare for the NAIA National Championships at Wilderness Ridge Golf Course in Lincoln, Nebraska.
