WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. - The University of the Cumberlands (UC) Women’s Basketball team finished off their Thanksgiving Holiday on top, defeating the NAIA 13th ranked Cougars of Columbia College at home on Saturday afternoon 78-55. With each active player seeing multiple minutes, the Patriot ladies showed the nation once again what it means to possess a balanced attack on each end of the floor. With the win, the Patriots now move to 2-3 on the season.
The afternoon started off in Cumberlands’ favor, as the Patriots immediately took control on the offensive end. While at times the Patriots were unable to knock down easy baskets, their impressive free throw shooting made up for the small mistakes, as their first points were accumulated mainly on shooting 11 of 11 from behind the charity stripe. Their effort on the defensive side of the court was perhaps even more intimidating as the Patriots held the Cougars to only 4 assists while forcing them into 25 turnovers.
The Patriot ladies were led by senior Jackie Alexander (Brodhead, KY) who added yet another strong performance to her successful career against the Cougars. She finished with 23 points on 7 of 9 from behind the three-point line. Julie Haye (Polo, IL) added 13 points and 3 assists, while Brooke Forsythe (Brunswick, OH) chipped in 12 points.
The Patriots will look to extend their winning-streak this weekend as they host Cincinnati Christian University on Friday, December 6th. Tip-off is set for 5 pm.
