Patriot Ladies earn NAIA Scholar-Athlete awards

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. - The University of the Cumberlands (UC) Women's Golf Team is in the midst of finishing up a fantastic season at the 2014 NAIA National Championships in Lincoln, Nebraska. The Patriot Ladies have done extremely well this season coming away with multiple tournament victories and numerous individual tournament champions. Not only did the Patriots do well on the course, but in the classroom as well as two Patriot ladies were honored for their hard work and dedication to academics.

Senior Taylor Gillis (Lawrenceburg, KY) and junior Shannon Bishop (Glasgow, KY) were named 2014 Daktronics-NAIA Women's Golf Scholar-Athletes.

Nominated by each institution's head coach, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and have achieved junior academic status to qualify. 119 student-athletes were named 2014 Daktronics-NAIA Women's Golf Scholar-Athletes.

Head Golf Coach Chris Kraftick commented, "Taylor and Shannon have been excellent student athletes over their careers. This is a well-deserved honor. It shows that we have as much dedication to our academic goals as we do to our goals on the course."
