WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. - The University of the Cumberlands (UC) Women’s Basketball program is one that has had its fair share of postseason success in the past few years. Winning 3 tournament titles in the past 4 years, Coach Melissa Irvin and her staff have worked their team hard to ready themselves for this year’s tournament. The Patriots earned the #6 seed and played #3 seeded Campbellsville University in the first round of the tournament.
In the first half, the Patriots played from behind for a majority of the half but some timely shots made by the Patriots helped keep them within striking distance. UC shot just 32% from the field in the first half and trailed the Tigers by a score of 36-27 at the break. With the Patriots continuing to battle throughout the half, they would bring it within 1 with just over a minute left in the half. The Tigers of Campbellsville though would find a way to hold off the Patriots and take a 67-62 victory over UC, ending UC’s run at another MSC Title early.
Jill Herman (Powell, TN) led the Patriots with 14 points and 10 rebounds on the game. Brooke Forsythe (Brunswick, OH) pitched in 14 points in the game. Vernisha Moss (Nassau, Bahamas) added 13 points and 6 rebounds in the Patriot loss.
The Patriots (18-12) will now have to wait until the NAIA National Championship Selection Show to find out if they will earn an at-large berth into this year’s tournament.
