WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. - The University of the Cumberlands (UC) Women's Basketball program knew they had a challenge ahead of them as they hosted the Lindsey Wilson College Blue Raiders on Thursday and finished out the week on Saturday at home against the #12 Campbellsville University Tigers. After two physical, hard fought games, the Patriots found themselves with two big conference wins.
On Thursday, the Patriots looked to bounce back from the recent heartbreaking loss against the Lindsey Wilson Blue Raiders. After a hard fought, physical first half the Patriots held a 33-32 lead over the Blue Raiders. Once again, foul trouble for the Patriots hurt them in the tail end of the game where the foul count was 25-17. A late 2nd half run by UC helped them take a lead that they would not relinquish as they took down the Blue Raiders 73-61. Dace Bicane (Riga, Latvia) led the Patriots on the night with 24 points and 6 rebounds. Jackie Alexander (Brodhead, KY) and Erica Lane (Knoxville, TN) each pitched in 11 points on the game. Jill Herman (Knoxville, TN) had a solid game as well with 10 points.
The Patriots took the floor Saturday with something to prove with their recent loss to the Tigers of Campbellsville University. After blowing a halftime lead against the Tigers in their last meeting, UC was able to capitalize on a lead going into the second half of this game by closing it out. After shooting 44% from the floor and holding the #12 Tigers to just 40% shooting from the field, it was several free throws from Erica Lane (Knoxville, TN) that sealed the victory for the Patriots by a score of 64-58. Leading the way for UC was Erica Lane with 22 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 steals. Jill Herman (Knoxville, TN) also pitched in 12 points and dished out 4 assists for the day.
The Patriots will be back in action on Thursday at home in the O. Wayne Rollins Center as they host the University of Rio Grande for their “Think Pink” game at 6:00 pm. They will then follow up on Saturday with another meeting against Shawnee State University at home at 2:00 pm as they celebrate Senior Day.
