WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. - The University of the Cumberlands (UC) Women’s Basketball team started off on a good note before ever playing their first game, as the Patriots were ranked #21 in the nation on the 2013-2014 NAIA DI Women’s Basketball Preseason Poll released Tuesday afternoon. The team received 92 total points, which is based on last year’s ranking, record, and the new class of players each team has recruited. The poll was voted upon by a panel of head coaches which represent each of the conferences and independents.
This year’s poll ranked Vanguard University as the #1 team in the nation, while Oklahoma City finished a close second. The poll also featured 5 Mid-South Conference (MSC) members, demonstrating the success and development of the MSC over the past few years. Ranking ahead of the Patriots from the MSC were Georgetown College at #4, Cumberland University at #7, Campbellsville University at #9, and Shawnee State University at #11.
The Patriot ladies are looking very impressive in preseason play and hope to climb up the polls quickly as the next ranking will not come out until December. With the strength of the Patriots’ MSC schedule as well as non-conference competitors, the Patriot ladies could easily reach the Top 10 by December.
Cumberlands will kick off their season on the road at the Bethel Classic on November 2nd. The first game tips off 8 pm as they will take on Bethel University.
