WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. - The University of the Cumberlands (UC) Men's Basketball program looked to bounce back this week after two tough losses at the University of Pikeville and UVA-Wise in last week's games. With another tough week of games on their schedule for this week, the Patriots knew they had to win to regain their position at the top of the Mid-South Conference (MSC).
On Thursday, the Patriots traveled to Campbellsville to take on the Tigers. It was not the night the Patriots wanted coming off two losses last week as UC was held to their worst shooting performance of the season going for only 27% from the field and just under 23% from beyond the arc as the Tigers defeated the Patriots 68-53. James Archie (Jackson, MS) led the Patriots on the night with 11 points and 4 rebounds as he was the only Patriot to score in double figures for UC. Antonio Bumpus (Columbus, OH) and Shaquille Lowery (East Moline, IL) each chipped in 9 points on the night as well.
On Saturday, the Patriots looked to come off their 3 game skid, but it would be a tough matchup as #14 UC would travel to take on #8 Lindsey Wilson College. The Patriots looked better in this game from the floor, but 1 for 8 shooting from beyond the arc would have the Patriots down 45-34 at the break. Consistent play by Lindsey Wilson while limiting themselves to just 10 turnovers on the game and shooting just under 47% from the field gave the Blue Raiders an 85-76 victory over the Patriots, giving UC a 4 game losing streak with each game being decided by 9 points or more. The Patriots were led by Antonio Bumpus with 23 points and 4 rebounds. Benito Santiago, Jr. (Coamo, Puerto Rico) added 22 points and 8 rebounds on the night. Shaquille Lowery also pitched in 12 points, 3 rebounds, and 4 assists.
The Patriots will be back in action on Thursday at home in the O. Wayne Rollins Center as they host the UVA-Wise at 8:00 pm. They will then follow up on Saturday with another meeting against the University of Pikeville at home at 4:00 pm.
