Patriot basketball hosts team camp

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. - Throughout the summer, the University of the Cumberlands (UC) holds a variety of camps for children of all ages. This past week, the Patriots Men’s Basketball team hosted its annual team camp for high school varsity and junior varsity teams, beginning June 9th and continuing until June 12th. While the camp extends its membership to any high school across America, it prides itself on local development. With all 11 teams this year located within the area, each has entered with the same goals: to improve as a team and to demonstrate the many talented athletes in the local area.

UC's coaching staff as well as other volunteers helped conduct the camp where nearly 20 games were played each day. Each game consisted of two 20-minute halves with a running clock. Each team played a minimum of 8 games in the 4 day camp.

“We always love doing this camp,” Head Coach Don Butcher commented. “It not only gives us a chance to look at possible upcoming players, but it really allows teams to work out all of the bugs before their season starts during the school year. Because we have many varsity as well as junior varsity teams sign up, it allows the younger players an opportunity to scrimmage with the varsity squad and get the necessary experience. And that’s really the goal of the camp: to give every athlete the opportunity to improve both individually but more importantly, as a team.”
