WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. - The University of the Cumberlands (UC) Men’s basketball team headed to Frankfort, Kentucky on Thursday in preparation for Mid-South Conference (MSC) tournament play on Friday. The Patriots attended the annual Mid-South Conference (MSC) banquet on Thursday evening where the Patriots were awarded individually for their hard work and success over the season.
Seniors Antonio Bumpus (Columbus, OH) and Benito Santiago Jr. (Coamo, Puerto Rico) both were named first team All- Conference members, rewarding both individuals for leading their team in almost every category. Bumpus led the Patriots in scoring this season, averaging 19.6 points per game, while still grabbing 5.7 rebounds a game and shooting an impressive 45% from the field. Santiago Jr. also had an exciting season, not only showcasing powerful dunks game after game but averaging 15.8 points per game and grabbing a team high 6.8 rebounds per game. Santiago Jr. also led the team defensively with 30 blocks and 53 steals.
While the Patriots were recognized for their hard work on the floor, their work off the floor did not go unnoticed as junior Chance Armstrong (Mt. Washington, KY) earned Academic All-Conference status. In order to be awarded such a prestigious award, student-athletes must maintain over a 3.25 grade point average throughout the season.
The Patriots will be in action on Friday night in the first round of the Mid-South Conference tournament as they take on #3 seeded Georgetown College. Tipoff is set for 8:00 pm.
