WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. - The University of the Cumberlands (UC) Cross Country teams had great seasons in 2011-2012 and look to build upon their success in 2012-2013. Head Coach Floyd Stroud and staff have done well this season in recruiting and have high hopes for their programs for the upcoming year.
Earlier this week the Mid-South Conference (MSC) head coaches cast their votes for the MSC predicted champions of the men and women’s cross country programs for 2012. The Patriots Men’s team earned 2nd place in the preseason poll while the women’s team were also voted 2nd place.
On the men’s side, two-time defending Mid-South Conference Champions Shawnee State University nabbed 100 voting points from the poll and picked up 10 of the 11 first-place votes from the conference coaches followed by the Patriots who earned 83 points and the final first place vote. The Patriots have a strong team including 2011 All-American Landon Hamilton.
On the women’s side, two-time defending MSC champions Shawnee State University received 97 voting points and 8 first-place votes from the conference coaches. The Patriot ladies received 91 votes and two first place votes. The Patriots have a strong team this year including two all-conference runners last year in Danielle Hoop and Darcy Mascotti. Hoop was also named MSC Freshman of the Year.
The Patriots will begin their season on September 7th at the Queen City Invitational in Cincinnati, Ohio. The 2012 MSC Championships are scheduled for Nov. 3 at the University of Rio Grande Athletic Fields in Rio Grande, Ohio.
