WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. - The University of the Cumberlands (UC) Patriot football team is continuing to work its way back into the picture as one of the most dominating teams in the NAIA. After a 43 point thrashing of Campbellsville this weekend by a score of 62-19, the Patriots have gained ground on the top teams in the country as they made another jump in the polls this week.
UC jumped two spots in this week’s edition of the NAIA Top 25 Coaches Poll as they moved to #8 in the NAIA. Since being handed their first loss of the season to #2 Georgetown College, the Patriots have outscored their last two opponents, UVA-Wise and Campbellsville, by a total score of 137-32. In this past weekend’s victory, the Patriots also broke or tied 8 school records in the process.
Marian (Ind.) continues to hold on to the #1 ranking as they garnered 13 of the 14 first place votes and a total of 314 voting points. UC is joined this week in the Top 10 by #2 Georgetown College, who continues to hold the spot for the 5th straight week. Fellow MSC member Cumberland University fell out of the NAIA Top 25 this week after a 32-30 loss to Bethel University. The Patriots’ final opponent, Kentucky Christian University, found themselves receiving votes in this week’s poll.
The Patriots will travel to Grayson, KY on Saturday as they get set to finish out their regular season as they visit Kentucky Christian University, who is carrying a 4 game winning streak into this weekend’s showdown. Kickoff is set for 1:30 pm.
