Patriot football rewrites history books in latest NAIA Top 25 poll

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. - The University of the Cumberlands (UC) Football program is off to one of his hottest starts in history at 4-0 including 2 wins over Top 25 programs. With their latest 59-3 over the University of Pikeville on Thursday night, the Patriots have turned some heads as the latest NAIA Top 25 Coaches Poll was released on Monday and UC made a historic move.

The Patriots were voted #2 this week in the NAIA Top 25 poll, the highest ranking in the history of the program, and up two spots from last week’s poll. This surpasses their #3 ranking that the Patriots had just two weeks ago. The Patriots made the jump with their large victory over the University of Pikeville on Thursday that was coupled with two losses this week by then #2 St. Francis (Ind.) and #3 Carroll (Mont.) on Saturday.

Morningside (Iowa) was named the unanimous #1 team in the NAIA this week with all 14 1st-place votes and 314 voting points. The Patriots earned 299 total voting points. Other notable teams joining UC in the NAIA Top 25 poll are Georgetown College (#5) and Lindsey Wilson College (#14).

Head Coach John Bland and the Patriots are continuing their prep for this Saturday as they will host #14 Lindsey Wilson College in a big Mid-South Conference East Division matchup. This week, the Patriots will also be celebrating the 125th Homecoming at UC, so all fans and supporters of the University of the Cumberlands are encouraged to attend.
