WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. -- The University of the Cumberlands (UC) Women’s Basketball team put on an impressive performance on Thursday afternoon to finish up a stressful week of finals.
With every eligible player playing multiple minutes and contributing in different ways, the Patriot ladies were able to run away with their biggest win of the season 101-35 over Kent State University at Tuscarawas. With the win, the Patriots move to 5-3 overall on the season.
Cumberlands started off on fire from outside, knocking down wide open three-pointers due to superior ball movement on the perimeter. Recovering from a tough couple of match-ups shooting last weekend at the Union College Classic, the Patriots shot a solid 52% as a team while out-rebounding the Golden Flashes 40-17.
Although there were multiple notable performances on the afternoon, the Patriot ladies were led by senior Julie Haye (Polo, IL) who had an overall career night scoring 20 points and grabbing 9 rebounds. Teammate Jessica Upchurch (Stanford, KY) finished the night with 19 points and 6 rebounds off the bench. Jackie Alexander (Brodhead, KY) continued her hot streak, scoring 18 points on 4 of 5 from behind the three point line, while Brooke Forsythe (Brunswick, OH) chipped in 15 points. Senior Jill Herman also reached double-digit scoring with 12 points, while point guard Erica Lane ran the team with efficiency, dishing out a career high 7 assists with no turnovers.
Cumberlands will relax the next week as they head to New York for their annual trip over Christmas break before heading home for the holidays. They will look to close out the 2013 season on a high note when they travel to Columbia College on December 28th for the Columbia College Classic.
