WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. - The University of the Cumberlands (UC) Men’s Soccer Team had a very successful 2011-2012 season under the direction of new Head Coach Brenton Benware and they are looking forward to taking on the challenge of winning the Mid-South Conference (MSC) Championship in the 2012-2013 season.
Each year, the Mid-South Conference releases its Preseason Poll, in which each head coach casts their vote as to who they believe will take home the MSC crown. For the third season in a row, the Patriots have landed 3rd place with 64 points.
Defending 2011 NAIA National Champion Lindsey Wilson College was picked as the preseason favorite with 81 points including 9 1st-place votes followed by University of Rio Grande with 73 points and the final 1st-plave vote.
Campbellsville University takes the 4th place vote with 53 points, and is followed by Cumberland University (48), who begins this season as a full MSC Member.
Ranked 6th is Shawnee State (43), followed by Georgetown College (33), new MSC member Bluefield College (24), St. Catharine College (22), and University of Pikeville (9).
“The MSC continues to develop into a very competitive conference. With 2011 NAIA National Champion Lindsey Wilson College as well as University of Rio Grande (ranked #5 in the 2011 postseason poll), it's a difficult climb to the top of our conference,” says Coach Benware. “I always like a good challenge, though, and we're excited to get this season under way.”
The Patriots kick off the 2012 season at Bryan College on September 1st.
