The University of the Cumberlands (UC) Men's Basketball program hosted its annual Youth Day Camp this past week at the O. Wayne Rollins Center in Williamsburg. Coach Don Butcher and staff had 88 participants in this year's camp with ages ranging from 8 to 14. The camp attracted youth from Williamsburg, Whitley County, Corbin, McCreary County, Laurel County, Knox County, and Wayne County.
During the camp, the participants worked on various fundamentals through drill and repetitions as well as playing other fun games. The morning sessions consisted of drill work and fundamental teaching while the afternoon consisted of 3-on-3 games, 5-on-5 games, and other game activities. At the end of the week, the camp staff gave out awards to contest winners as well as 3 on 3 and 5 on 5 game winners.
UC Men's Basketball Head Coach Don Butcher commented, "We had another fantastic week of camp. This camp is always a lot of fun because you get to see young athletes that love the game and are willing to learn. We had a lot of repeat campers attend this year and to see how much they have improved and grown as basketball players is always a great thing. We had kids from all over the surrounding areas that attended. I thought it was a big success once again and we look forward to hosting it again next summer."
The Patriots have already hosted their annual team camp this year, but will still host the 2012 Big Man Camp from June 24th - June 28th.
