The 2012 NAIA Football Coaches Spring Top 25 Poll has been released, and the University of the Cumberlands (UC) has been chosen 24th overall.
The Patriots were not the only Mid-South Conference team represented as rivals Georgetown College came in at 4th, Bethel University at 12th, Cumberland University at 23rd, and Lindsey Wilson College rounded out the Top 25 at 25th overall.
UC is looking to have another stellar year under Head Coach John Bland as their offense looks to regain the power it holds with both the passing and running games. Many of the young men on this team are now veterans at the college level and are looking to capture a National Title for Bland and the university. The defense looks to have another great year as they bring back key players and look to piece in some younger veterans and perhaps even freshman once again.
Coach Bland commented, “It is always nice to be in the Top 25 poll anytime. It is even nicer to finish that way. We have a lot of talented players that should give us a really good chance in 2012. We need to continue to develop all the way until our players report back in August.”
In the 2011 season, the Patriots went 7-3 overall with a conference record of 4-2 and just missed out on the NAIA playoffs which would have been their 5th straight Conference Championship and 5th straight NAIA Football Championship Series.
