The University of the Cumberlands (UC) Women’s Basketball team is continuing a dominant season in 2011-2012 as they currently hold a 10-1 record overall with a 3-0 mark in the Mid-South Conference. The Patriots are in pursuit of another Mid-South Conference Championship on their way to the NAIA National Tournament. Currently, it seems as the pollsters in the NAIA agree as the Patriots moved up this week in the NAIA Top 25 poll.
Last week, the Patriots were ranked #15 in the NAIA. This week, UC makes a move up one spot to the #14 position in the country. Oklahoma City University continues their run at #1 this week for the 2nd straight week as they received all 11 first place votes. The Patriots lone loss of the season was to Union University who continues to hold the #2 spot in the NAIA Top 25.
The Patriots aren’t alone in the Top 25 when it comes to the Mid-South Conference as 4 other teams join them, which is the most teams by any conference in the NAIA Top 25. Shawnee State comes in at #6 this week while Campbellsville University moves up two spots to #12. Georgetown College moved up one spot to #20 this week while Lindsey Wilson made the largest jump up three spots to #22.
The Patriots are in a busy week of training and conditioning as they will head to the Bahamas just before Christmas for two exhibition games. UC will resume regular season games on December 29th and 30th in Lebanon, TN as they will compete at the Cumberland University Classic. The Patriots will take on Trevecca Nazarene on the 29th at 7:00 pm and host school Cumberland University on the 30th at 3:00 pm.
