The University of the Cumberlands (UC) Patriot football team is coming off one of the best seasons in school history in 2012. A season where they finished 10-2 and lost to defending national champion St. Xavier in the 2nd round of the NAIA FCS Playoffs. Much of the success for this season can be attributed to the rushing game and its leader Terrance Cobb (Knoxville, TN).
Terrance had arguably the best season in Cumberlands football history. He ran for 1991 yards on 259 carries for 26 touchdowns. Much of Cobb’s yardage came in the second part of the season where he was most impressive at a time when most backs falter. Terrance had 7 consecutive games of over 170 yards rushing while also setting school records in yardage and touchdowns in a single season.
When you have a player playing at such a high level and his team is also successful, there is no doubt he will garner attention. Cobb has another award to add to his plethora of honors he has received this season. Terrance was chosen as a member of the 2012 All Commonwealth Collegiate Team. This is a very prestigious honor as they vote on the best college players from all the colleges and universities in the state of Kentucky. Terrance will join the company of UK football player Larry Warford and one of the best D-1 QB’s in the nation, Teddy Bridgewater from the University of Louisville.
In 2011, the Kentucky Pro Football Hall of Fame honored the first All-Commonwealth Collegiate Team of 2010, in order to give recognition to youth at a local level and empower them to develop expectations of greatness. These athletes represent the best college football players that Kentucky has to offer. Their dedication to the game has contributed significantly to their alma maters and each will be honored for giving of their personal best through the game of football.
Terrance looks to continue his exceptional play as he and the rest of the 2013 Patriots are hard at work to take the program even farther. Look for the Patriots to be even better than last season with Terrance and a great nucleus of other players coming back in their quest to make it to where they have never been before the NAIA National Championship Game.
