Patriots drop first game of season on the road at IU-Southeast

WILLIAMSBURG KY. - The University of the Cumberlands (UC) men’s basketball program has had a stellar start to the 2012-2013 season as they carried a 12-0 overall record into New Albany, Indiana on Friday to take on the Indiana University-Southeast (IU-SE) Grenadiers. Unfortunately, the Patriots were unable to continue their winning ways as they dropped their first game of the season.

UC began the game hot as they shot over 51% from the field in the first half and held a 9 point lead over the Grenadiers 41-32 with 20 minutes to play. It was IU-SE who lit up the scoreboard in the 2nd half as they outscored the Patriots 57-33 in their comeback victory over UC 89-74.

The Patriots were led by big man Steve Goins (Chicago, IL) as he had 21 points and 9 rebounds. Ernie McCoy (Columbus, OH) pitched in 14 points and 4 assists in the game. Benito Santiago Jr. (Coamo, Puerto Rico) also had 13 points and 8 rebounds on the game.

The Patriots (12-1, 4-0 MSC) will now take some time off for the holidays as they will be back in action on December 29th as they take on Tennessee Wesleyan in Williamsburg. Tipoff is set for 3:00 pm.
