WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. - The University of the Cumberlands (UC) Men’s Basketball program is preparing for their season opener diligently as they have a tough schedule ahead of them for the 2013-2014 season. As the Patriots have been hard at work looking to build upon their success from last season, the Mid-South Conference (MSC) Preseason Coaches’ poll was released on Tuesday and the Patriots were picked to finish in the middle of the MSC.
UC garnered 52 voting points in the MSC Preseason Coaches’ Poll which ranked them 5th in the conference. Defending NAIA National Champions Georgetown College is the favorite to capture the Mid-South Conference regular season title in 2013-14, receiving 78 voting points from the conference coaches, including six of the 10 first-place votes.
The University of Pikeville is projected to finish second in the conference as they received 72 voting points and three first-place votes. Two-time defending MSC regular season champions Lindsey Wilson College is third in the poll picking up 68 voting points and the final first-place vote. Campbellsville University was ranked 4th just ahead of UC receiving 53 voting points.
St. Catharine College came in at 6th with 36 voting points while Shawnee State University followed just behind in 7th with 34 voting points. Cumberland University was 8th in conference voting earning 25 voting points. Bluefield College and the University of Rio Grande rounded out the poll in 9th and 10th with 17 and 15 voting points respectively.
The Patriots will host Indiana University-Southeast for their season opener on Tuesday October 29th in the O. Wayne Rollins Center in Williamsburg. Tipoff is set for 7:00 pm.
