WILLIAMSBURG, Ky - The University of the Cumberlands (UC) Men’s Basketball team put on a show for their home crowd on Tuesday night as they hosted the Tigers of Hiwassee College.
Showcasing a quick pace offense in the open floor, the Patriots cruised past the Tigers 85-48. With the win, the Patriots extend their winning streak, moving their overall record to 3-2.
The Patriots started the game off with a bang, shooting out to an early lead with sharp passes and strong play in the paint. Attacking the glass while maintaining a solid perimeter game, the Patriots finished the night shooting an impressive 54 % from the field and 30% from behind the 3 point line. While the offense seemed to flow easily for the Patriots, their defensive effort was just as strong, out-rebounding the Tigers 40–20 while holding them to under 50 points.
The Patriots were led by freshman stand-out Michael Dow, who led all scorers with 17 points and 5 rebounds, continuing his role as the leading scorer for the Patriots this season. Senior transfer R.J. Scott (Slidell, LA) posted solid numbers for Cumberlands with 16 points while ripping down 9 rebounds. Steve Goins (Chicago, IL) wasn’t far behind Scott, adding 14 points of his own along the way, while freshman sharp-shooter Taylor Gover (Somerset, KY) chipped in 11 points while dishing out a team-high 4 assists.
The Patriots will look to keep things rolling as they travel to Indiana this weekend to participate in the Grace College Tournament where they will face Missouri Baptist College on Friday, November 15th. Tip-off is set for 4:00 pm.
