Patriots Host Annual Big Man & Guard Play Camp

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. - The University of the Cumberlands (UC) men’s basketball program hosted their annual "Big Man and Guard Play Camp" on the UC campus in the O. Wayne Rollins Center Gymnasium and Intramural Gymnasium. Nearly 50 campers arrived on campus Sunday, June 24th from many counties from across the area. The camp lasted through Thursday June 28th.

"We were able to see some good upperclassmen as well as some younger talent that have the chance to become very good basketball players. It’s always a good week of camp when we have this age group of athletes on campus," said Assistant Men's Basketball Coach Mark Vernon.

Campers arrived on campus were expected to put a lot of effort into the camp and quickly learned this was not a play around time. Players spent close to 8 1/2 hours each day on the hardwood getting a lot of repetitions as the camp staff put them through numerous drills. The camp also gave the players the opportunity to play many 3 on 3 and 5 on 5 games.

The camp staff is built around a highly collective group of college and high school coaches that have been working the camp for several years now ensuring all players that attend are receiving good instruction.

"It was very enjoyable to see the campers wanting and willing to learn this week. We hope to see the majority of these young men back next year and hope they still have that mindset to work. Each camper took something away from this camp and we hope they carry that into next year," said Vernon.
