KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Bruce Pearl says he knows he is serving
as the NCAA's example to other coaches of what not to do when
facing investigation.
The former Tennessee basketball coach said Thursday he is glad
Tennessee was not further punished for what he and his assistants
did and he takes full responsibility for his mistakes.
But Pearl says he is disappointed in the length of his penalty
and feels he should have gotten more credit for ultimately
admitting he had lied.
The NCAA slapped Pearl with a three-year show-cause penalty. The
move makes it harder for Pearl to get another college job because
he is prohibited from recruiting during the next three years, and
any school wanting to hire him would have to talk to the NCAA about
removing that penalty.
