Raiders win MSC title tilt in overtime

PIKEVILLE, Ky. – Top-seeded Lindsey Wilson College outscored No. 2 University of Pikeville 13-9 in overtime to claim the championship of the Mid-South Conference tournament 77-73 on Sunday afternoon in the Frankfort Convention Center.

Pikeville (26-6), saw a seven-game win streak come to an end with the loss, but is assured of a trip to Kansas City to play in the NAIA Division I Men’s Basketball National Tournament beginning March 13.

Lindsey Wilson, 29-4, got a three-point play by junior Milton Watts four seconds into overtime, and when senior guard Kalen Kimberland sank two free throws with 4:18 to play, Lindsey was on top 69-64.

Kimberland led the Blue Raiders with 25 points, hitting 12-of-16 from the line.

The Bears got as close as two with 2:07 left when senior Jamar Briscoe sank a three-point shot to make it 71-69, but could get no closer in the extra frame.

The game was tied 11 times and saw the lead change hands five different times, but in overtime, Lindsey led the entire way.

The teams, ranked third (Lindsey Wilson) and 10th (UPike) in the country, were separated by no more than eight points in the entire game.

Briscoe led all scorers with 32 points in the game. The senior from Baltimore scored a tournament high 83 points in three outings.

Junior guard Elisha Justice fired in 11 while handing out seven assists, pulling four rebounds and picking up two steals. In 32 minutes of play, he turned it over only a single time.

Kimberland was joined in double figures by Watts, who had 12 and 10 rebounds, while senior DeAntra Scott tossed in 11 and junior Chris Bridges 10.
